Hebe spent a week on a work experience placement with our Southern Division in June. In this report she explains why it was a valuable experience for her.
My name is Hebe and I am 17. I am currently studying A Level Maths, Further Maths, Physics and French at sixth form college. I have spent a week on work experience with Knights Brown, which has been an interesting and inspiring opportunity.
I have had the chance to see several sites, all at different stages, as well as sit-in on a handover meeting for a new contract starting soon. I have had a practical experience using some equipment and learning what the role of a civil engineer on site is as well as beginning to hear and understand technical language.
I developed an interest in becoming an engineer and looked into doing a degree in civil engineering at university, however having never studied civil engineering, this week has been significant in affirming my belief that I want to pursue it as a career.
My work experience week has not only helped me make choices about what I want to do after sixth form, it has also shown me that Knights Brown is a company that considers each of their employees as individuals and will support young people like me aspiring to be an engineer.
I’ve had the chance to talk to so many people in a variety of roles who have been engaging and taken the time to answer all my questions.
I want to thank Knights Brown for this real life work experience and Alan, who allowed me to shadow him. Also, HR where I spent Friday, who took me under their wing and where I had a really enjoyable day. It was good to see another side to the company.
