    Deep Water Berth, Portland Port

    Portland Port has invested £25m in a new deep water berth so it could simultaneously accommodate two 350m long cruise ships. Knights Brown was appointed as managing contractor responsible for bringing the project in on time and budget.

    Ryde Pier, Isle of Wight

    Ryde Pier is a listed structure and the second longest pier in the UK, at nearly half a mile in length (686m). Knights Brown has been appointed to refurbish the structure, removing the steel frame from a redundant tramway and creating a dedicated pedestrian walkway.

    Holmsley Bridge, A35 New Forest

    The replacment of a 113 year old bridge on the A35 that runs over the C10 Burley to Sway/Brockenhurst road and realignment of 380 metres of the A35. To keep traffic flowing, the new bridge was built alongside the existing bridge, and then the old steel bridge removed.

    ABP Newport, Manufacturing Facility

    ABP’s manufacturing facility looks very smart and quite impressive, having reached substantial completion in July 2022. Situated in the Port of Newport, it has a total site area of 34,000m2 and the building footprint is 15,000m2.

    The contract comprised the design and construction of:
    -11,440m2 manufacturing & storage
    -1,501m2 bulk material storage
    -899m2 calcification plant shed
    -760m2 canopy & hard standing
    -622m2 offices

    This project demonstrates the delivery of flexible, port-centric manufacturing and distribution solutions for ABP’s customers that minimise costs and carbon emissions.

    Porthcawl Coastal Defence Scheme

    The Eastern Promenade and Western Breakwater scheme involves repairs and improvements to the Western Breakwater and Eastern Promenade coastal defence structures in the busy coastal town of Porthcawl, comprising:

    • Masonry and concrete repairs to the western breakwater
    • Parapet works on the western breakwater
    • Masonry and parapet works to the eastern breakwater
    • Rock armour and precast blocks to the wave side of the western breakwater
    • Rhych Point rock armour work
    • Relict Dune improvement works
    • Provision of temporary RNLI Compound

    West Cheltenham Transport Improvement Scheme

    The works on the A40 include carriageway, walking and cycling improvements and play an important role in helping to improve Cheltenham’s accessibility in unlocking the Golden Valley Development (home of Cyber Central UK). Our work on the A40 between J11 of the M5 and Cheltenham includes the widening of the Arle Court roundabout and approaches; the design and construction of a pedestrian and cycle bridge; widening of the eastbound carriageway from the M5 to the roundabout.

    Dover Western Docks Revival, Public Realm

    Knights Brown has completed construction of 550m of promenade overlooking the new marina at Dover Western Docks. This stage of the redevelopment comprised paving work on the marina curve, marina car parking and welfare facilities and a recreational area, to form the new Clock Tower Square, an essential component for the opening of the new marina. Clock Tower Square is Dover’s brand new public realm area, an outdoor recreational space overlooking the waterfront. Another major part of the Dover Western Docks Revival regeneration project now open to the public.

    Aligen Tank Shed, Tidworth

    Knights Brown was appointed by Aspire Defence for the design and construction of the Aligen Tank Sheds (AL0637) & (AL0639). Internal view of AL0637, a stand-alone workshop building providing five workshop lanes with a 10 tonne, six metre hook height overhead crane. A steel portal frame with masonry walls at low level to the workshop lanes and servicing and maintenance lanes, 3,100m2 floor area of power-floated slab and a two-storey office with insulated steel profiled cladding above. Sectional doors for tank access inspection pits for tank servicing.

    Berth 102 Quayside Works, Southampton

    This drone footage shows the Berth 102 quayside works, which include the replacement of over 5,000m² of heavy duty fibre reinforced concrete paving, spanning a 400m length of the quayside and an upgrade to the mooring bollards. The works took place immediately alongside the new cruises hip facility, Horizon.

    Inaugural Use of Berth 2 by Majesty of the Seas

    As our contract for the levelling and extension of berth 2 at Portsmouth International Port neared its conclusion, we were asked to accommodate the arrival of Royal Caribbean Cruises' Majesty of the Seas. At 268m she is the longest ship to have berthed at Portsmouth and was a fitting guest for the berth's first official use.

    Knights Brown was responsible for the design and construction of the levelling and extension of berth 2 so that Portsmouth International Port could accommodate much larger ships (up to 255 metres in length). This time lapse video runs for about 9 minutes and covers the entire construction project.

    Completed Crowthorne Community Fire Station

    Construction of the new Crowthorne Community Fire Station has been completed and the facility opened for service on Sunday 3 May 2020.
    Crowthorne is Royal Berkshire’s second tri-service community fire station and provides a shared location for Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, Thames Valley Police and South Central Ambulance Service.

    The redevelopment of Avonmouth fire station comprises:
    - Demolition of the southern (single storey) building and bays 3-5 of the existing appliance bay and covered wash. Construction of the new accommodation block and single appliance bay.
    - Demolition of the northern (two storey) building and the remaining appliance bay. Construction of the remaining four appliance bays and all remaining externals works.

    We launched our first company video in September 2019 to coincide with the second anniversary of our rebranding.
    It features our people and showcases our projects and the diversity of our offering. It focuses on our key messages of putting our people first, delivering projects we are proud of, and achieving ambitions both for our people and our customers.

    Inauguration of Lulwo Footbridge, Bridges to Prosperity 2019

    Our fourth project with Bridges to Prosperity came to a successful conclusion in August 2019, when the 64m suspended Lulwo footbridge was opened. The community will now have year-round safe access to essential services including education, healthcare, and markets. Our team of volunteers had the most amazing experience.     CleanEarth Wind Turbine Installation for Accolade Wines

    Our customer, CleanEarth, made this film of the wind turbine's final assembly at Accolade Wine's HQ in Avonmouth over the weekend of 11/12 May 2019. After nearly three years in the planning, the last couple of days went without a hitch.
    Knights Brown constructed the reinforced concrete piled foundation. Great credit to all CleanEarth's partners: King Lifting, Vensys, Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering and JNP Group.

    Time Lapse Footage of the Demolition of Butts Bridge, Alton

    The demolition of this brick arch railway bridge in Alton makes way for its replacement with a steel structure that has been designed to minimise maintenance while reflecting the Victorian heritage of the original. These works will remove a local bottleneck and associated pinch points, creating a safer, more efficient junction and are part of a wider scheme to facilitate new housing that will meet the future needs of the area.

    North Portsea Island CFERM Phase 3 - Year 2 Works Now Complete

    The second year of works being carried out under phase three of the North Portsea Island Coastal Flood & Erosion Risk Management scheme, at Tipner Lake, is now complete and has been opened to the public. The construction of a 4m high, reinforced concrete seawall along the 1.85 km frontage of Tipner Lake. It will provide a continuous defence and protection against a 1 in 500 year coastal flood event. Year two of this three year project is coming to a conclusion.

    Jaguar Land Rover Aftercare Facility, Christchurch

    A new ‘aftercare’ building for the maintenance and servicing of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles on one site. At 2,471m² this is the biggest facility of its type outside of JLR's global headquarters in Warwickshire.

    Milford on Sea Beach Huts

    Construction of 119 precast concrete beach huts at Milford on Sea, Hampshire, have been completed by Raymond Brown Construction.
    The original beach huts were destroyed in a huge storm on 14 February 2014.

    Bridges to Prosperity 2018 Inauguration ceremony

    Our team of volunteers in Uganda tackled our biggest ever in-country bridge build, the 92m Namakhokolo footbridge. This footage was shot during the inauguration ceremony, and shows what looks to be the entire community making a mass crossing. It certainly put its load-bearing credentials to the test.

    Bridges to Prosperity 2018 Teaching 'the Floss'

    This year our Bridges to Prosperity volunteers travelled to Uganda. While in country one of our volunteers took the opportunity to teach some of the local children how to 'Floss'. Bet you can't watch this without smiling. We grin every time.

    ICE South West Civil Engineering Awards 2018

    Our West Bay Deep Water Berth project was a finalist in this year's ICE South West Awards. This quirky, 15 minute film features our Project Manager, Nick Gibb as the ICE celebrates the achievements of civil engineers across the south west region.

    Floplast - Warehouse & External Storage Yard, Sittingbourne

    We have completed the construction of an extension to Floplast's existing factory facility in Sittingbourne, Kent. Floplast is, one of the UK's leading manufacturers and suppliers of plastic building and plumbing systems.

    Discover Civil Engineering (ICE)

    Our North Portsea Phase 3 project for Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership features in a new video from the ICE “Discover Civil Engineering”. It's a great short film designed to promote civil engineering to a new audience.

    Hill Head Coastal Protection Phase 2

    The construction of a 1500m long reinforced concrete sea wall incorporating access steps, ramp and a new promenade. The aim of this project was to develop, design and build a cost effective coastal defence solution to maintain amenity and leisure access along this frontage for the lifetime of the structure.

    Bridges to Prosperity 2017

    This summer, a team of 10 volunteers (five from Knights Brown and five from Tony Gee & Partners) travelled to Rwanda to build a 58m suspension bridge over the Bakokwe River at Budende, under our industry partnership programme with Bridges to Prosperity. This video follows their remarkable journey.

    North Portsea Island CFERM Phase 2

    River Ely Bridge Lift

    This footage shows the installation of a 40m span pre-fabricated warren truss bridge weighing approximately 29T. A 500T crane lifted the structure into position over A48 Western Avenue in Cardiff, which was closed overnight.
