Knights Brown has completed the Butts Bridge replacement and highway improvements scheme in Alton for Homes England. The works included the replacement of the brick arch railway bridge with a steel structure designed to minimise maintenance while reflecting the Victorian heritage of the original.

The highways improvements included replacing a double roundabout junction with a single large roundabout with widened approaches and improved foot/cycleway links, a further roundabout junction, and a new link road.

A full road closure had significant impact on the community and travelling public so liaison with stakeholders was a key feature throughout.

    our sectors

Overall a successful project with good management of the work. Site team asked questions rather than made assumptions which was good. Good communication. Would (and have) recommended Knights Brown for other projects.

This complex and challenging project was a collaborative undertaking from the outset. Combining two projects was inspirational, saving not only money but diverting 22,000m3 from landfill. Some extremely innovative tools and methods were used to demolish the pier, recover material and to achieve the lowest environmental impact on one of the most environmentally designated places in the UK.
