Knights Brown was appointed to replace the Garreg Bridge with a new structure adjacent to the existing, which remained open until works were complete.

The replacement bridge comprised precast, pre-stressed concrete beams with concrete infill and in situ reinforced concrete parapet plinths. The bridge is supported on bearings on reinforced concrete bankseat abutments. The bankseat abutments were founded on mass concrete foundations 2.5m deep.

Works included in situ reinforced concrete bankseat abutments and wingwalls on mass concrete foundations; lifting nine precast reinforced concrete beams; carriageway realignment works to the bridge approaches; earthworks; resurfacing; service diversion of Welsh Water main; demolition of original bridge deck and breaking up and removal of redundant flexible pavement sections.

    our sectors

Knights Brown performed very well on this project in terms of quality, cost and time. The team worked very well as part of an integrated delivery team with the Employer to the benefit of the project

    - Marc Bryan, Portsmouth City Council

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

    - Iain Brooks, Cummins

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.
