Knights Brown was appointed for these design and construction works which included micro-piling through the quay wall, construction of a piled relieving slab and filling of a large void beneath the quay.

Raking micro-piles serve to resist overturning and future settlement, while the piled relieving slab will help prevent future slope failure. Our innovative solution to stabilise the quay wall involved the use of cast ductile iron driven grouted piles and steel cased bottom driven grouted piles.

We engaged a specialist subcontractor to complete permeation grouting to fill the 5m wide by 3m deep void and displace the softer silts, eliminating any need for divers to work within the void area.

Throughout all piling and void filling operations, the wall was monitored for signs of movement and for critical activities, this was as often as every 10 minutes.

    our sectors

Knights Brown performed very well on this project in terms of quality, cost and time. The team worked very well as part of an integrated delivery team with the Employer to the benefit of the project

    - Marc Bryan, Portsmouth City Council

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

    - Iain Brooks, Cummins

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.

    - David Sheldon, Cummins

Overall a successful project with good management of the work. Site team asked questions rather than made assumptions which was good. Good communication. Would (and have) recommended Knights Brown for other projects.
