SUMMARY OF WORKS AND SERVICES UNDERTAKEN:

    • Foundations for two Enercon E70s
    • 600m of upgraded and widened farm tracks
    • 750m new access track
    • Crane hard standings
    • Construction of substation building
    • Electrical design, installation & commissioning

Ysgellog Wind Farm was a full balance of plant contract for two Enercon E70 turbines, which involved 600m of upgrading and widening farm tracks and construction of 750m new access track, design and construction of crane hardstanding, design and construction of the substation and electrical installation and commissioning.

The substation superstructure was design by our consultants BSW and constructed by local builder Pritchard Brothers. Electrical switch gear design and installation was undertaken by our specialist subcontractor, Powersystems. Scottish Power the DNO installed their own switch gear in to the substation.

Once foundation construction was complete earth mats were installed and backfilling with the excavated clay ready to receive the wind turbine.

A 500 tonne mobile crane was brought to site to erect the turbine components. During this operation Knights Brown assumed the role of Principal Contractor ensuring all required lift plans and safety documentation were in place and followed.

On completion of these works the farm access track to the farm house was surfaced with HDM binder course providing a smooth clean access to the farm.

Foundation construction for Enercon was undertaken by us under a separate contract. This involved soil replacement at both turbine locations amounting to 1800m3. Steel reinforcement of 23 tonnes per base and 260m3 of structural concrete per base.

As a BT line was required, Airvolution instructed us to install 960m of ducting to allow BT to connect the substation to their network. This work was undertaken as a variation to the original contact.

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.
