Knights Brown has been appointed as principal contractor for the West Cheltenham Transport Improvement Scheme.

The works on the A40 include carriageway, walking and cycling improvements and play an important part in helping to improve Cheltenham’s accessibility in unlocking the Golden Valley Development (home of Cyber Central UK).

Our work on the A40 between J11 of the M5 and Cheltenham includes the widening of the Arle Court roundabout and approaches, the design and construction of a pedestrian and cycle bridge and the widening of the eastbound carriageway from the M5 to the roundabout.

Prior to the start of work our public information ‘meet the contractor’ event was held online and our public exhibition was made available virtually.

Additional information can be found on Gloucestershire County Council’s website. The project is registered with the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

This is the third highways project Gloucestershire County Council has awarded to us following our work at A419 Stonehouse and A4173/A46 Pitchcombe Junction.

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.

    - David Sheldon, Cummins

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

    - Iain Brooks, Cummins

Knights Brown was a great client to deal with. We felt from the very outset that they worked with us rather than for us, demonstrating real collaboration in order to minimise disruption to the port. The works were also delivered through a very challenging time, with the latter stages coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic. Their approach to this was thoroughly professional, with health and safety the primary consideration. Working practices were strictly amended and monitored, with the project completed to the satisfaction of all involved.
