Knights Brown’s works comprised construction of split level recycling bays segregated by pre-cast concrete units, reinforced concrete hardstanding for heavy vehicular and pedestrian use, covered recycling areas, street lighting and CCTV systems, a single lane access road and foul and storm water drainage.

Located on a former gas works, several risks had to be carefully managed including construction of the road and drop-off zone over a high pressure gas main for a distance of 70m. Following early consultation with the gas utility company, we raised the road level by 600mm to provide a minimum safe depth above the mains to reduce the risk of excavations taking place near the pipes.

Through value engineering workshops, we provideD Torfaen CBC with several cost savings, which amounted to £66k, including:

    • Crushing the concrete slab and reusing as fill
    • On site treatment strategy for Japanese Knotweed
    • Asbestos management plan allowing asbestos to remain in-situ

Working with the ‘Pathways to Work Initiatives’ and Torfaen CBC, we were able to offer a local young person valuable work experience and employment as a site operative for the duration of this scheme.

    our sectors

Malcolm & I would like to thank yourself and Guy for working with us and our design team in delivering a superb finished product for FloPlast that we are very proud of and which has been much admired by our customers on site visits.  So far so good, we are finding our operational feet on the site and it all appears to be working well.

    - Bryan Lynch, Floplast

Knights Brown performed very well on this project in terms of quality, cost and time. The team worked very well as part of an integrated delivery team with the Employer to the benefit of the project

    - Marc Bryan, Portsmouth City Council

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

    - Iain Brooks, Cummins

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.
