Knights Brown was appointed to construct the route which is 2.5m wide and 2600m long. The works comprised widening the existing footway, creating new footways, fencing, drainage, carriageway haunch widening, king post retaining wall, embankment, boardwalk, traffic signs and road markings.

The contract, which was procured under the SE7 Regional Highways Framework, was a partnership between Highways England, The Forestry Commission, Hampshire County Council and the South Downs National Authority. It was delivered in five sections defined by land ownership.

Alternative routes were implemented for pedestrians, horse riders, and cycle access on foot during the closure of the forest track, equine track/footpath at the entrance of the Country Park, and the existing footpath). Each day we liaised with the relevant authorities with details of all vehicular and pedestrian diversion routes and we displayed large scale plans to explain the section activities and their durations.

    our sectors

Knights Brown performed very well on this project in terms of quality, cost and time. The team worked very well as part of an integrated delivery team with the Employer to the benefit of the project

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

    - Iain Brooks, Cummins

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.
