Knights Brown was appointed for the design and construction of a concrete access road, RC raised plinth, drainage and service ducts for a new bale testing station at Kemsley Paper Mill.

The project supported the ambition within DS Smith to better quantify the quality of recovered paper within its supply chain, which is known to be a significant cost and efficiency driver of the business.

A 25m long by 2.7m wide raised concrete plinth was installed to house the new testing equipment and staff control room.

Drainage, including an attenuation tank, was installed along with service ducting connecting to the papermill. The access road had an “Armco” barrier installed to segregate lanes and bollards placed to protect the delicate equipment.

It is anticipated that the new facility will allow for the testing of over 120 truckloads of recycled paper per day.
