Knights Brown was appointed to construct an 840m access road and infrastructure works for a new Crest Nicholson housing development. This included construction of an off-line roundabout to provide access from the highway, verges, footways and cycleways, a signal controlled Pegasus crossing and three sets of precast concrete culverts with in-situ concrete headwall structures.

The new road crosses the line of a significant aviation fuel supply pipeline to Gatwick and Heathrow airports. We appointed a specialist approved contractor for works taking place within the exclusion zone, which included new drainage and services being installed 3m below the pipeline with a reinforced concrete protection slab above the pipeline within the road corridor.

Our works were split into five phases with each phase being handed over to deadline to release parcels of land for housing development.

    our sectors

This complex and challenging project was a collaborative undertaking from the outset. Combining two projects was inspirational, saving not only money but diverting 22,000m3 from landfill. Some extremely innovative tools and methods were used to demolish the pier, recover material and to achieve the lowest environmental impact on one of the most environmentally designated places in the UK.

    - London and South East Constructing Excellence Awards judging panel on Phase 2 of the North Portsea Island CFERM

Overall a successful project with good management of the work. Site team asked questions rather than made assumptions which was good. Good communication. Would (and have) recommended Knights Brown for other projects.

    - Chris Clark, Colin Toms & Partners

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.
