Knights Brown was awarded this complex design and construction scheme to deliver the cruise berth levelling and extension works at Portsmouth International Port.

Our project brief was to lower the berth by 2.4m so that loading could be carried out at dock level and passengers would embark via a gantry walkway.

The cruise berth was also to be extended by 40m and a further freestanding ‘dolphin’ mooring structure, to be added.

The works would enable the port to receive ships of up to 255m in length, opening up more of the cruise market for the city.

The berth receives its first official visitor, Majesty of the Seas.

    our sectors

Knights Brown was a great client to deal with. We felt from the very outset that they worked with us rather than for us, demonstrating real collaboration in order to minimise disruption to the port. The works were also delivered through a very challenging time, with the latter stages coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic. Their approach to this was thoroughly professional, with health and safety the primary consideration. Working practices were strictly amended and monitored, with the project completed to the satisfaction of all involved.
