Our contract comprised the design and construction of three vehicle showrooms and a combined service workshop, creating a dealership for sales of the Alpine, Dacia, Nissan and Renault vehicle brands.

The building is of steel frame with cladding/curtain walling and a specialist roof.

The workshop and two of the car showrooms are situated on the ground floor, while the third showroom is on the mezzanine first floor, accessed via a vehicle lift.

Adjoining ancillary offices and welfare facilities complete the ground, first and second floors.

The site also accommodates an independent two-storey car park for more than 100 vehicles, a car wash facility, parking for display and customer vehicles, service yards, drainage, landscaping and incoming services.

The design included a district heating system fed from an adjacent heat plant also feeding the local sports centre and car dealerships.

Other features to improve carbon efficiency include:

    • PV panels on the roof
    • Underfloor heating to showrooms
    • Nine EV charging points
    • Cycle storage for 10 cycles
    • Intelligent lighting system throughout
    • Solar reflective glass
    • Water conservation and leak protection measures
    • 89% recycled steel for structural frame
    • Low energy personnel and goods lifts (less than 0.15m/sec travel)

Delivered over just 44 weeks, the project required careful planning and coordination between work areas and operations.

The building was designed and built to achieve the BREEAM Excellent rating and is currently under assessment.

    our sectors

Knights Brown performed very well on this project in terms of quality, cost and time. The team worked very well as part of an integrated delivery team with the Employer to the benefit of the project

    - Marc Bryan, Portsmouth City Council

Knights Brown was a great client to deal with. We felt from the very outset that they worked with us rather than for us, demonstrating real collaboration in order to minimise disruption to the port. The works were also delivered through a very challenging time, with the latter stages coinciding with the COVID-19 pandemic. Their approach to this was thoroughly professional, with health and safety the primary consideration. Working practices were strictly amended and monitored, with the project completed to the satisfaction of all involved.

    - Anisa Koci Port Master Plan Project Manager at Portsmouth International Port

The team at Knights Brown has done a fantastic job in creating the largest JLR Aftersales Centre in the UK, working alongside GEMCO Sales & Service who fitted out the facility to the highest standard. With 29 service bays in total, Dorset is now future-proofed for servicing the JLR product.
