Knights Brown was appointed to design and construct a single terraced building of approximately 3,600m², subdivided into six individual aircraft hangars each one of which incorporates an office/meeting room with kitchen and toilet facilities and overlooks the historic Daedalus Airfield. Provision was also made for a mezzanine floor of up to 108m² to provide additional office space should it be required.

Each hangar was constructed with a power float concrete floor and steel portal frame clear-span superstructure with a curved roof, enclosed by a profiled metal composite cladding system and completed with power operated sectional hangar doors.

External works comprise car parking, road extensions, infrastructure and services installation from the existing service road, and hard and soft landscaping.

At tender stage, our value engineering created savings of more than £300k.

The new hangars have assisted in relocating existing businesses from their current facilities, some of which date back to the First World War and have become unfit for purpose.

    our sectors

The team at Knights Brown has done a fantastic job in creating the largest JLR Aftersales Centre in the UK, working alongside GEMCO Sales & Service who fitted out the facility to the highest standard. With 29 service bays in total, Dorset is now future-proofed for servicing the JLR product.

Malcolm & I would like to thank yourself and Guy for working with us and our design team in delivering a superb finished product for FloPlast that we are very proud of and which has been much admired by our customers on site visits.  So far so good, we are finding our operational feet on the site and it all appears to be working well.

    - Bryan Lynch, Floplast

This complex and challenging project was a collaborative undertaking from the outset. Combining two projects was inspirational, saving not only money but diverting 22,000m3 from landfill. Some extremely innovative tools and methods were used to demolish the pier, recover material and to achieve the lowest environmental impact on one of the most environmentally designated places in the UK.

Overall a successful project with good management of the work. Site team asked questions rather than made assumptions which was good. Good communication. Would (and have) recommended Knights Brown for other projects.

    - Chris Clark, Colin Toms & Partners

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

    - Iain Brooks, Cummins

Knights Brown performed very well on this project in terms of quality, cost and time. The team worked very well as part of an integrated delivery team with the Employer to the benefit of the project
