Knights Brown was awarded a contract to design and construct the balance of plant for four 2MW Repower turbines. This is one of a series of projects awarded by GDF Suez.

The project involved the design and construction of civil engineering works including modifications to the site entrance, new tracks, site compound, crane hardstanding and turbine foundations.

The site had particularly challenging ground conditions including fissured limestone and old lead workings. The foundation design was carried out as the work of exposing the shallow fissures proceeded.

The contract also included the design and construction of a substation/control room building. Electrical works were undertaken with our key supply chain partner, Powersystems UK, and included HV and LV cabling works, communications cabling and all wind farm electrical installations within the substation.

The programme had to be extended due to additional ground investigation works and week to week foundation design requirements. It was further complicated by the translocation of a colony of great crested newts.

    our sectors

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.
