SUMMARY OF WORKS AND SERVICES UNDERTAKEN

The project comprised the design, supply and installation of one Enercon E-53 wind turbine as well as temporary and permanent infrastructure and onsite electrical works.

The work comprised the construction of:

    • Temporary compounds and access track
    • Brick built substation to house switchgear, SCADA equipment, metering unit
    • Permanent site entrance
    • Gabion Terramesh retaining wall and RC slab and crash barrier
    • Permanent site access track including temporary turning area
    • Crane hardstanding and laydown areas
    • Wind turbine foundation
    • Installation of wind turbine tower and associated components by Enercon
    • Underground cabling, including earthing, between the turbine and substation and between the substation and grid connection point

The planning constraint for the access road was only 6m wide and the existing carriageway level to road level was a 3m difference. A gabion basket type retaining wall was designed and constructed with a reinforced concrete running surface and crash barrier constructed on top.

During construction issues arose when a water main was located within the proposed site entrance, causing a delay in construction the entrance. To avoid delaying the installation of the turbine, temporary trackway was installed across the site joining the crane hardstanding with the temporary construction entrance, which resulted in no delay to the installation of the wind turbine.

    our sectors

Sites are always very well presented. First impressions count and if a site looks well organised and clean when you arrive then generally this is applied throughout the management of the projects. Indeed, all five projects I am Cummins PM for, have been managed to a high standard and equally the safety records and standards are very good.

Site staff were pleased to have had Knights Brown on the team, they were proactive from day one to the end towards potential issues and responsive to a changing site environment for works.
