The team responsible for the replacement of the Milford on Sea Beach Huts, for which Knights Brown was the principal contractor, has been nominated for a British Construction Industry Award.
The British Construction Industry Awards are the most prestigious awards in the built environment sector, with winning projects and teams being recognised for their achievements by their industry peers and the public.
The Milford on Sea Beach Huts Replacement Scheme has been shortlisted in the Climate Resilience Category. A key requirement of the scheme was to ensure the beach huts would withstand a 1:200-year storm event. While doing so the beach huts serve as inhabitable infrastructure acting as a sea defence and incorporate a raised viewing promenade over their roofs for public use.
The team that worked on the shortlisted project comprises:
Commissioning Authority: New Forest District Council
Architect: Snug Architects
Design Engineer: Ramboll
Main Contractor: Knights Brown
Other project contributors: Moores Concrete, Graphic Concrete
This award category recognises projects that provide resilience for the impact of extreme weather and climate change on people, properties and business. The judges are looking for projects that:
- Work beautifully with their community
- Provide evidence of community engagement throughout
- Offer value for money
- Demonstrate sustainable use of materials and methodologies
- Demonstrate innovation in the techniques applied
- Consider future adaptability
- Provide evidence of economic and social benefit
- Provide environmental enhancement
The British Construction Industry Award winners will be announced on 10 October 2018.
